The Dangers of Sleep Apnea

Studies have shown that untreated, serious sleep apnea can have major impacts on overall health. This includes an increased risk of developing the following medical conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • Acid reflux
  • Brain fog
  • Daytime fatigue
  • Drowsy driving
  • Heart failure
  • Memory loss
  • Depression

At-Home Sleep Testing

At-home sleep testing is also able to monitor many of the same vitals, but it will be done in the comfort of your own bed using a device that will be attached to your finger. Once you’ve completed your sleep test, your results will be read by a sleep physician, who can then diagnose the type of sleep apnea that you have, if any.

Oral Appliance Treatment

Most patients start out using a CPAP machine to treat their sleep apnea. These devices blow a continuous flow of air throughout the night to keep your airway unobstructed, allowing for oxygen to easily travel to the brain and rest of the body. However, some patients may find wearing a face mask or the noise of the machine disruptive and uncomfortable, making it not conducive to a good night’s rest. In these cases, we can offer you a noise-free alternative, oral appliance treatment. Dr. G uses Respire Blue and Respire Pink appliances.

Solea Sleep & Snoring Treatment

Did you know that about 80 percent of people who snore are mouth snorers? When the soft palate tissue in your mouth is relaxed, it can vibrate and cause snoring. Our Solea dental laser uses specific wavelengths to tighten the tissue in just a single, five-minute session to minimize vibrations and snoring.
